Bayley & Sage Own Label Wine

Three new varieties of wine from Bayley & Sage

We are thrilled to have our own brand wine to offer you – three grape varieties, so there is something for everyone:

A Viognier from the vineyards in Vaison la Romaine in the Southern Rhone Valley grown on chalky soil 400 meters above sea level which gives the wine on the nose a perfume of white flowers and mild apricot. On the mouth we have the same notes with a good concentration and texture and a long refreshing finish.

A Rosé from the vineyards around Aspiran in Languedoc. 40 kilometres north of Montpellier. Made from Grenache grown in sandy soil, picked early in the morning and passed straight on to fermentation with the temperature controlled to maximize the expression of fruit and clearness. On the nose it is fresh but not aggressive, with red fruit, a little herbal note and clean. On the mouth you have a good mouthfeel, not heavy and fresh. You get that nuance of red fruit again.

A Carignan grown in the old vines of Aspiran in the Languedoc. Vineyards with sandy soil make the Carignan light. This wine is biodynamic and vinified without sulphites (a little bit is added when bottling to protect the wine). On the nose we can smell ripe red fruit, black olives, roses and spice and on the palate, there is a great mouthfeel with a touch of sweetness with an elegant and long finish.

Rune Elkjaer – the producer

Twenty years ago, Rune was the head sommelier of Restaurant Kommandanten in Copenhagen. The first restaurant in Scandinavia to obtain 2 Michelin Stars. During that time, and until 2010 he created an import company specialized in Burgundy and the Rhonevalley. The wines were mainly sold to high-end restaurants in Copenhagen. In 2010 Domaine Elkjær-Amiel was created.  It is situated in Vaison La Romaine in the southern Rhonevalley. Elkjær-Amiel works with Domaine Barbanot in Vaison La Romaine. An estate consisting of 25 hectares between Seguret and Gigondas, situated 400 meters above sea-level. Old vines, worked without chemicals, and with organic fertilizer.

A word from Jennie: “I’ve always had a passion for food and believe it to be one of life’s greatest pleasures. Collaborating with Rune on our branded wine has been a special project. I cannot wait for you to try it!

Here is to a taste of Provence from Bayley & Sage!”
