Our buyer has been haunting New Covent Garden market in the early hours for years, selecting the best fresh produce he can get his hands on, and taking delivery of special products shipped in just for us from the famous fruit and veg markets in Milan, and Rungis just outside Paris. With peppers that look nothing like the sort that lurk on supermarket shelves to the finest Ventoux cherries as soon as they’re available, we always have something a little different to sit alongside the essentials, and it’s all always of the highest quality. We take pride in sourcing great products, and when it comes to cheese that means working with suppliers and producers of all shapes and sizes – from the smallest companies who produce a couple of cheeses to the most experienced affineurs in Europe with the finest Comtes at all stages of maturation lining their walls. With well over 100 cheeses in our stores, and some seasonal specialties that arrive throughout the year, it’s an eclectic mix, from the obscure to the classic, and it’s always best to pop in for a chat about what’s best now.
From The Kitchen
Our kitchens are some of the busiest in town, producing freshly made soups, sandwiches and salads as well as sausage rolls, quiches, and our famous scotch eggs and pizzas fresh from our stone-based bread ovens, as well as delicious meals ready for you to take home and pop in the oven. And, if you’re looking for a deliciously healthy option, our Parsons Green and Wimbledon Village stores offer a vast array of fresh salads made throughout the day every Monday-Friday. You can mix and match as you choose, so you can come up with your very own selection of vibrant salads to fit your requirements.
Hidden below stairs in our Parsons Green branch is our butcher, working away with free-range, melt-in-your-mouth meat that makes its way onto our shop floors in the form of prime cuts for mid-week meals, joints of meat for a Sunday roast, homemade bangers and burgers, and superb meal options that are prepared and ready for you to pop straight into the oven.
We have some of the finest breads in London delivered to us every morning of the year (except Christmas day). From your morning toast to table loaves, we can tempt you with Scandinavian sourdoughs, continental ryes, spelt breads and olive breads, authentic ciabatta, good old English tins… the list goes on!
And for breakfast, mid-morning pick-me-ups, afternoon tea or a seriously decadent dessert, we have a wide range of freshly baked viennoiserie, cakes and slices, gorgeous cupcakes and petite macarons, classic British bakes and, if you’re looking for something special, some gorgeous patisserie.
From cheeseboard to smorgasbord (it’s not all about the dairy in our delis!) we have fantastic charcuterie and cold meats from Britain and Europe, rich pates, beautiful olives from across the continent, and a wide selection of antipasti and accompaniments. As well as our prized prosciuttos, our chef and our butcher join forces to bring us our own free range roasted English hams the traditional way, with a savoury-sweet honey and mustard glaze.
Among our store-cupboard offering you’ll find specialist pasta, olive oils from across Europe, beautiful balsamic and sherry vinegars, and all the essentials of a well-stocked kitchen if you’re fond of cooking from scratch!
We work with a few select companies to source the freshest responsibly sourced fish. From Brixham and Looe, or sustainable farms in Scotland and Europe, all of our suppliers are Marine Stewardship Council approved and work closely with their fisherman to ensure that all of our fish, wild or farmed, is fully traceable.
Our wild fish is entirely sourced from stocks managed responsibly in accordance with FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fishing, and harvested seasonally when fishing poses no threat to the reproductive capacity of the stock. Farmed fish is sourced from well managed farms that adhere to high environmental standards and are fully integrated into an environmental management system and only use feed from sustainable sources.
For lovers of wine, a nice glass (or two) can really lift a meal (and of course we like to help where we can) so we work closely with our suppliers to source great wines to pair with our products. So from reds, whites, roses and a bit of sparkle, we always have something new each month to tempt you.
